There are 3 types of regressions that can happen in hypnotherapy.
This means going back to any experience in this life that is related to your present issues and needs healing.
Events big and small can subconsciously trigger emotional, psychological, behavioral patterns (and even physical ailments) that stay with us long after the event is over. We may think we have moved on from it while it’s still affecting us in ways we don’t even realize.
I practice client-centered therapy, which means we only revisit memories you are ready and open to resolve. Plus, sometimes all you may need to create a meaningful shift is to reconnect with happy memories; the bright spots you have forgotten about.
I am an example of this. I don’t have any fond memories of my school years, as I never felt I fit in. It’s something I carried with me into adulthood, believing I don’t belong in many social contexts. Yet in one session, to my surprise, I regressed to a memory of playing with classmates during recess in middle school.
I was there, engaged, happy, and very much “part of the group.” I realized I had created a narrative for myself that wasn’t entirely true. It had caused me to draw a negative blanket over an entire period of my life which had then affected how I looked at all social situations!
This means going back to your time as a fetus in the mother’s womb, after conception and before birth.
Is it really possible? Yes! And this type of regression is often a great source of important revelations.
We can understand how family dynamics impacted us before we were even born. We can heal the relationship with our mothers (if needed). We can sense how our Soul felt about being born in a certain context, or why it chose our particular body. We can gain insights on our life’s purpose and the challenges and lessons we came here to face.
Womb regressions can be most surprising and deeply spiritual. There are many ways we can dialogue with our Soul in hypnotherapy, and the womb is one of the places that can facilitate that.
This implies going back to memories of lives you lived in other times and places.
Here’s a post where I discuss whether this means reincarnation is real.
For now, let's look at how past life regression works therapeutically.
Hypnotherapists have long seen evidence that – contrary to previous beliefs - many issues and blocks we experience pre-date childhood and this lifetime altogether.
Current life’s events seem to just re-awaken imprints (fears, phobias, emotional scars, and physical ailments) developed farther back in time, essentially presenting a new “opportunity” to break the pattern and let go of past baggage that’s limiting the expression of our full potential.
To heal these issues, it’s often necessary to work both at the past life level and on the correlated event(s) in the current lifetime.
In a past life regression we are able to get a spiritual understanding of the past life and, if needed, reconcile with the people in that life who hurt us (or were hurt by us). We get to see the silver lining in those experiences and come to look at them in a whole new light.
The shift in perspective is quite uplifting and amazing to witness!
The initial talk we have will give us a sense of which direction to take and help us come up with a plan for the session. After that, though, the mantra is: your Soul knows best. So, let’s trust that it knows which experience to take you back to.
This, too, is part of client-centered therapy. It ensures you receive the healing you need the most right now.
